The Growing Popularity of 15-Minute Neighbourhoods Across Canada
1 min read.
In recent years, the development of “15-minute neighbourhoods” has grown throughout the GTA and other cities across Canada. The idea behind these communities is to provide residents with shorter commutes to various amenities and necessities, such as work, groceries, daycares, transit, housing, shopping, gyms and more.
15-minute neighbourhoods are made up of residential condominiums, office buildings, retail shops and restaurants, and some form of outdoor space like a public or private park, walking paths, and communal gardens, all within a 15-minute radius.
These neighbourhoods are designed to bring their residents a better quality of life as they spend less time commuting or not living near an amenity they require. They also provide a closer community as people can build better relationships with their neighbours, alongside a greater housing density on a smaller square footage of land.
Keep an eye out for the next time you drive through a 15-minute neighbourhood; one could be coming or already near where you live.
