What Provinces are Ontarians Moving to?

1 min read

For the first time since the early 1980s, Ontario is seeing a record number of Ontarians leaving the province to move to another.

Where are Ontarians moving to? Well, Statistics Canada reported that a quarter of Ontarians moved to Alberta, and another quarter moved to the Maritimes, Newfoundland, and Labrador. At the same time, Quebec experienced a record number of Ontarians moving to the province, as opposed to Quebecers moving to Ontario.

Even with this record number high of Ontarians leaving the province, Scotiabank reported that Ontario welcomed over 190K newcomers from outside Canada, showing Ontario is still the more favourable choice for those moving to Canada.

The major reasonings behind these moves are lower housing cost, Ontarian’s ability to work remotely, and the attraction to find new scenery.
